| Hey West Coast folks -- just wanted to let you know that IPR's going to have a presence in some fashion at two conventions next weekend.
Up in the SF bay area there's Kublacon: http://www.kublacon.com/ -- EndGame will be there, and bringing a wide swath of titles from the IPR catalog for sale.
For the Southern Cali crowd, Gamex 2008 will be happening the same weekend: http://www.strategicon.net/ -- Joshua BishopRoby will be there with a spread of IPR games for sale as well.

| Is there a community about driving in Austin? Would there be too much of an opportunity for hostile flame wars? Might it be a fantastic and cathartic place to vent and be mollified?

| Academy Sports has 14oz boxing gloves, but the person I'm buying them for specifically asked for 16oz gloves. Sports Authority has a bunch online but no stats on the weight of the leather. Is there such a thing, and if so where can I find them? Bonus points for North Austin, Pflugerville, or Round Rock, but I'm willing to drive...
Also, anyone who knows about boxing equipment, where can I get wrist straps? Are they rigid supports that go inside the gloves, or are they just cloth straps? I have no idea where to even start with this stuff...

| Seriously. The amount of cops on the road these days is really getting out of hand.
Caution: a new trick for cops is to park out of sight behind buildings next to the freeway onramps that suffer from bottlenecks and traffic jams. They wait for people to pass on the shoulder (in order to get around someone who is trying to cram their way into stand still traffic). Then they pull out and ticket you. Watch out if you're entering southbound HWY 183 from Springdale / Manor. They have a really clever hiding spot there.
It seems like everywhere I look these days there's a cop clocking traffic or playing mind games. I saw a motorcycle cop driving on the freeway pull up to a person's blind spot, look at everyone in the car, then drive up to the next car and repeat.

| Sorry if you've had to read this post multiple times, as I have crossposted it to a few other comms.
I'm a cellist who will be in Berlin for all of July and most of August, and I am looking to rent an instrument. Does anyone know of a violin shop in or accessible from central Berlin that will rent me a cello?
Also, I would ideally like to find a teacher who would be willing to work with me in preparing for an audition, but I know that that's a long-shot.

| Hey, due to some bad decisions on my part, I haven't gotten my driver's license yet (I'm 18) but after spending some time behind the wheel with one of the (incredibly bitchy) teachers who conducts DPS driving tests, it seems next to impossible for me to be able to pass the test by the end of the summer. This may be kind of a long shot, but is there any way I can get my license without taking the test?

| For the last two weeks, I've been getting bitten by tiny, yellow bugs when I'm outside. Even for the squirmish, these bugs aren't gross. They're *so tiny*. Probably not even a millimeter. The second I touch it, it's dead. It's yellow to yellow brown in color. I always feel them when they land on me, and it's a tiny bite sensation. After that, it's fine. Doesn't leave a lasting sensation. Anyone have any ideas about what these guys are or have similar experiences?
I asked a few folks at work and they all think I'm crazy. I google'd no-see-ums and it's not these guys. So, so tiny! Maybe I just have hyper sensitive skin?
(When I lived in Florida, I was a mosquito-magnent. I usually had 20+ bites at all times from May to September.)

Ok, so I will be attending Texas State this coming Fall and although I know some students live in South Austin a friend warned me against the commute and suggested I stay in San Marcos. I will be attending for graduate school. I've never lived in the area and I was looking forward to living in Austin but if it's going to be a cramp, I'll stay in SM. Any suggestions? Advice? | | There is a new place that just opened up on the corner of I-35 and Parmer called Pad Thai. It is where the Clay Pot used to be. I tried it out last night and it was really quite good. A little pricey, but you actually got the portion you paid for. I only tried the Pad Thai and the Mango Sticky Rice. Prices run about $8.95 for standard dishes and $14.95 for specialty dishes. | So folks are probably wondering where we're at on the Dresden Files RPG development front, after the previous bit.
Chad U. is continuing his update of our setting components with material from Small Favor (and eventually the comic books and Backup). More about that, here: http://chadu.livejournal.com/tag/dresden
Lenny had semester finals up through Wednesday, and is now in the period of recovery. Starting next week, he goes full-tilt at the playtester feedback, doing revisioneering and expansion on spellcraft, conflict resolution, and supernatural abilities.

| Ok, I know that this was brought up a few months ago but i forgot to save it to my memories and now i can't find it worth anything. I just recently moved to the area and i really need to figure out a way to get my birth control. I've been out of work for 6 months now so money is a bit of an issue and i'm un-insured. I can have the health department in Florida forward my last pap -6 months ago, to someone here so that i can get birth control.
This has been an absolute nightmare. The Travis county health department doesn't even have an opening until July. I'll be out in the next couple of weeks!
Any clinic suggestions, anything would help right now.

| Can someone recommend a mechanic in the Tech Ridge/Wells Branch area?
My check engine light just came on and the car dies at long stop lights. I'd like a place who will do the computer diagnostic and then let me decide if I want it fixed or not. I'm in the process of purchasing a different car, but figure if I'm going to sell this one it should probably run. :)

| So I've kept the playtest application for the Dresden Files RPG open during the bleeding alpha period. During the playtest, we've taken in an additional 200+ applications. As of this time, the total number of playtest applications on file is over 850.
Think we have enough?
Anyway, I put this out there because I've gotten a few people saying "why haven't I heard back", and so on. We're looking at a TITANIC number of interested folks here, and we've only done one round of picks for playtesting so far -- maybe 30 applications at most. That still leaves over 800 folks who are *possible* for later-round picks.
But we can't send out 800 emails each time we do a round of picking to tell folks "sorry, you're still on pending status", not managably, and not without that eating into actual productivity.
BUT! Those of you who have applied and not heard back should know that at the least, we'll be contacting you once ALL playtesting is concluded and we're heading towards publication. We'll want to do right by everyone who took the time to apply -- we haven't quite figured out what form that will take, but it *is* our intention, and one I hope we can deliver on. | | comments: 6 komentoj or Afiŝu novan komenton |
